15 Days: Morocco Grand Tour

Day 1: Starting in Casablanca Airport – Hassan II Mosque – and driving to Rabat

 
After arrival, our team will drive you to Casablanca and then to Rabat.  In Casablanca, we will guide you to the Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Africa. And experience the coastal “Cornish”.  Afterwards, we will leave for Rabat, the capital of Morocco, where we will spend the night in a Riad.

Day 2: Rabat_Chefchaouen

 

We start with breakfast; our team will take you to visit the Hassan Tower in Rabat and then drive directly to Chefchaouen through the city of Knitra, overviewing Ouazzane and some Rifian villages. You’re going be in the blue city by late afternoon and the rest of the day is yours.

Day 3: Chefchaouen

 
One day in Chefchaoun to discover one of the most beautiful destinations in Morocco, one of the magical cities at the feet of the Rif.  The Chefchaouen medina (city) had a Spanish-style square surrounded by many funky arts and crafts stores, roof-top restaurants and cafes where you will spend your night in a nice place to enjoy the breeze and the beauty of nature.
 

Day 4: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

 

When you take breakfast in your accommodation, our exciting journey will start towards Volubilis, crossing via Ouazzane and other Rif. In Volubilis as historical landscape, our team will visit the Roman ruins and let you explore the archeological site and its Moroccan history.  After visiting the ruins, we will make our way to Meknes, a city with a 17th century heritage. Our staff will stop for you in this place for lunch and hang out at the historical huge walls of the medina, Bab el Mansour and enjoy a visit to Moulay Ismail’s shrine .

After Meknes sightseeing we will drive to Fes city, and overnight in one of it Riads.

Day 5: Fez Sightseeing

After breakfast in your riad, you will start exploring the largest old city (Medina) in the world, walking in its alleys and small streets. Our visit starts by visiting the Royal Palace gate, tAe Jewish headquarters, the first Mellah ever built in Morocco, built during the 16th century. We will ensure that you visit all sites with a cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University, the oldest in Morocco and the World, the, the Attarine museum, Tanneries, and Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After having lunch, our team and you will pay a visit the tiles cooperative and then experience a wonderful panoramic view over the whole medina of Fes.

Day 6: Morning in Fez and afternoon direction to Midelt

You will leave Fes about 12:30 travelling towards Ifran, a beautiful mountain village, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco”, because of its landscapes, and then to Midelt city. In this journey you’ll enjoy glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains. Overlooking Azrou, where the biggest forest exists in Morocco – where you probably will see apes. After a break, within the forest, your travel keeps moving to Midelt and its  great hills and the neighbouring  mountains. In this city you will be accommodated in a cosy hotel or  a Kasbah.

Day 7: From Midelt , Ziz Valley to Erfoud and Merzouga.

 

The day starts with breakfast in your accommodation; our team and you will direct to Merzouga through Errachidia. And you will go through the fascinating Tizi(pass) Ntalghamt and the Ziz Gorge, overviewing the High Atlas plateau. You’ll observe how the scenery changes to reveal beginnings of the desert as you come closer the city of Errachidia, where you will have lunch and see the Berber hospitality and generosity.  After this, you will travel alongside the fantastic Ziz Valley, having a break for panoramic sightseeing along the way to Erfoud and Rissani.  Our team and You will arrive at Merzouga afternoon. You’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before you start your camel ride to spend an overnight at the desert camp “Dihya Desert Camp or similar” with Berber music and sand boarding.

Day 8: Merzouga tour – Rissani Market – Erg Chebbi – Camel trek

After breakfast in the Camp you will start an explorative journey of the area. You’ll visit the Gnawa people – originally slaves brought from Sudan -to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga (not available always as it can be dry if there is no rain for long time), with its bird populations. You may also visit the souk in Rissani (available in Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday), a traditional town which was the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and the meeting place of the Caravans trading as far as Timbuctu in Mali. Here you will see a lot of men hooded and women veiled. Back to the village of Merzouga for some rest, in the afternoon you will mount your camel trek, guided by an experienced camel man to explore within the sanddunes of Merzouga. Overnight will be at Dihya Desert Camp or similar, where you will have your dinner. For your convenience, the camp is well equipped.

Day 9 : Merzouga Desert – Toudra Gorge – Dades Valley

The day begins with breakfast as we will depart towards the Draa Valley where you can see one of the longest rivers in Morocco. On the way we have some breaks for taking pictures. Of course it is to enjoy the view of the widespread kasbahs and berber villages which dot the road as well as the beauties of the Draa valley. You´ll have some free time for lunch  in Nkob or Alnif,(distance btewwen them is about 100 km)  and then, after two hours driving we´ll reach the wonderful Merzouga dunes. “Desert of powdery sand dunes”.  We´ll change there our motorized transportation for one of animal traction to go to the desert. When we reach the camp, we accommodate in the tents, that are tents made of camel hair, just like the ones used by nomad families.  Dinner and night in the berber tent under a beautiful time looking up to the sky decorated with moving stars and a clear view.
 

Day 10: Dades valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

The day begins with breakfast in the hotel, and you will travel through the Dades Valley towards Kalaa M’gouna and Ouarzazat. The route across Dades Valley offers numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip in both the valley, famous for its roses and the cinema city of Ouarzazate.  We will pass by by Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. the largest Kasbah in Morocco, built by T-hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains. It is now a UNESCO heritage site. After that, we will begin to cross the high Atlas mountains with many differently panoramic views and attractive Berber villages all along the way till marrakech 
 

Day 11: Marrakech – Essaouira

 

The hustle and bustle of Marrakech quickly slips away as you travel to and enter into the peace and beauty that is Essaouira. This ancient citadel on the West Atlantic coast of Africa literally means “wall” in the Berber language, and you’ll soon discover why. Travelers from all over the world come here to experience the very special weather, and explore its diverse and unique history.

when we leave Marrakech, we drive through lush valleys filled with orange groves, ancient olive trees and working farms on the drive to the coast. After a short while, we arrive in Chichaoua, where we can take a short break for a coffee or snack at Cafe Afoulki.

Once you have had the chance to refuel a bit, we will keep on moving, soon coming on our first signs of the Argan trees. These special trees are valued for their cosmetic and numerous medical purposes and reasons. The tree, a relic species from the Tertiary age, is extremely well adapted to drought and other difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco, and because they are now endangered, they are under the protection of UNESCO. 

After all of your morning travels, you arrive in Essouira, where you have the chance to wander the ancient streets and can imagine what life existed here in the past. Here you can dine on fish straight out of the sea at any number of local restaurants, and can even have a camel ride on the beach, if you want!

Day 12: Essaouira – Marrakech

 
As usual the breakfast is taken in your riad, and you depart back to Marrakech. On the way – since this is the land of Argan culture – this is an opportunity to visit the women’s co-operative of Argan oil where they extract the oil that is famous for its culinary, cosmetic and medical properties.  After several breaks to take photographs, you will continue your travel to Marrakech and check-in to your riad. After dinner you will enjoy walking in the square of Jemaa Elfna, entertained by magicians, story tellers, musicians and snake charmers. Overnight in a riad in the Medina.
 

Day 13: Marrakech Sightseeing

 
After breakfast in the riad, you can start exploring Marrakech “the reddish city of Morocco”.  We will ensure that you see the most important sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia Palace. After lunch at a restaurant near the square, you will walk through the souks (local markets) and view hundreds of handicrafts. Afternoon, you will have some free time to wander by yourself through the other parts of the city .
 

Day 14: Free day in Marrakech

 

Today you will be on your own and if you would like to have a cooking class, food tour, day trip, air balloon or an activity. Desert Day Tours staff will help to arrange it for you.

Day 15: Transfer to the airport

 

Today your tour with us ends. Our driver should be there ready for you. You are to be taken via a 30-minute drive to the Marrakech Menara airport or 3-hours drive to Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport. We’re flexible and can make it to an airport in whole Morocco so be sure that you choose the best airline to you and the time you prefer. We’re available 24/24 to make your holiday in Morocco amazing.
